Creating A Sleep Sanctuary

Experts have long said that getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best ways to keep healthy and happy. A sleep sanctuary, a comfortable, relaxing place that’s used only for sleeping, can help get a great night’s sleep and tell your body it’s time to wind down. It’s so important to get a solid sleep where you sleep restfully through the night. You know how it is when you don’t get a good night’s sleep. You’re not as focused, you’re grumpy, and experts say that you reach for sugary snacks to keep you awake through the day.

A Good Night’s Sleep Is Important for Optimal Health

People who sleep in rooms that aren’t conducive for sleeping suffer from poor sleep, chronic sleep disorders, and poor health. If you have trouble sleeping, you may be surprised how much of a difference creating a sleep sanctuary can make.

When we get into bed at night, we prepare ourselves to sleep and unconsciousness but our minds are never fully detached. If we are worried about work, bills, or school, then we are thinking about these things when we are in bed. So getting your room ready for sleep without distractions or reminders of all the things you need to do or accomplish is extremely important.

Getting Started

The first thing you want to do is to take everything out of this room that isn’t necessary, pretty, or fits the theme of a sleep sanctuary. This means no TV, no computer, no work, no laundry room, and no crafts. Even though you should keep your sleep sanctuary free of distractions, you should also make it pleasant. Having pleasant things around you can help to make you relax and go to sleep easier. Here are some ideas of items you can place in your sleep sanctuary.

Create a Comfortable Sleeping Space

The most important thing in your sleep sanctuary is your bed. You should have a comfortable place to lay your body down to sleep. It doesn’t have to be a super expensive Casper mattress or Tempurpedic. A queen-size pillow-top mattress can cost around $300. It is much cheaper than a king-sized Tempurpedic and will most likely be just as comfortable.

Keep the Room Clean

Keep the room clean. Cleaning your room is one of the most important components of creating a sleep sanctuary. Get rid of all clutter. Move any furniture to the side of the room. Make sure to remove any materials that would be a distraction while you sleep. The room should be kept clean so there are no distractions.

Good Ventilation and Clean Air is Key

Clean the air. Clean air is an important factor for good sleep. Dust, dandruff, and different types of particles can have a negative impact on the quality of sleep. They can also affect your health. You can also clean the air by buying an air purifier.

Keep an Ideal Sleeping Temperature

Keep the room cool. It is important to keep the room cool. The ideal temperature is between 65-67 degrees. The temperature of your room should be comfortable.

Stay on a Sleep Schedule

Use the same sleep schedule every day. Make sure to have a consistent sleep schedule every day. This will create a regular routine. Use your bedroom for sleeping and nothing else. Focus on getting quality sleep and avoid other distractions such as television, etc.

Aromatherapy Can Help You Drift Off To Sleep

You can use candles with a scent that you find relaxing, such as lavender. Just make sure that you blow them out before you go to bed! Using a diffuser with a timer and aromatherapy scents can help too, and you won’t have to worry about blowing that candle out!

Blankets and Soft Items

A great pillow or a good set of pillows and blankets will help you sleep soundly. Having a hard pillow may have you waking up in the middle of the night with aches and pains. If you are constantly waking up in the middle of the night, you may want to try and replace your old pillows with new ones.
